Grant Guidelines

Available funds will be used for the general good of the whole County, regardless of where generated.

• Projects being submitted must provide at least 25% of cash for a one day event, or 0% if a two day or more event for advertising. Eligible projects that are not fundraisers are exempt from the 25% cash match and may use inkind match.
• Must show a benefit to promoting tourism, room nights, and generating dollars being spent in Lyon County and, in general, bringing people to Lyon County.
• Justification of funding events shall be at the discretion of the Board

 Additional Guidelines:

• Room Tax funds may not be used to pay for prizes and gifts, such as saddles and belt buckles; however, room tax funds may be used to pay for the engraving or lettering on prizes or gifts as long as it advertises or promotes the event.
• Art Collections, Historic Exhibitions, or Museums that require setting up and taking down of those exhibits or collections, or have the need for a docents time, may request reasonable funds for those efforts, as long as there is a separate explanation and breakdown of costs on the application line item.
• Room Tax can be used to pay for T-shirts, hats, and promotional items that are given away so long as they advertise or promote the event; however, room tax funds will only pay for silk screening on these items if they are being sold.
• All applications for Room Tax Grants must use form RTG-100, which is available online or in the Lyon County Comptroller’s Office.

To be eligible for reimbursement, all expenditures must occur during the grant period.  This means radio, newspaper advertising, etc. must actually be performed, not just contracted.  The actual date of the event doesn’t have to be in the grant period, just the dates of the actual advertising.  Reimbursements will not be paid on statements or quotes, only on actual invoices.  Invoice dates must be during the grant period as well.
