Lyon County is committed to providing the best possible benefits and health services to our employees. This page outlines benefits Lyon County provides for full-time and part-time employees*

 Benefit Employee Receives
Attendance Incentive Program
Use of 24 hours or less of sick leave per calendar year will result in crediting of one day of Personal Leave time. Personal Day must be used by the end of the calendar year or lost.
Bereavement Leave
An employee is entitled to a bereavement leave of absence of up to five (5) workdays with pay, chargeable to the employee’s sick leave balance.
 
Catastrophic Leave Bank
Employees may be entitled to additional sick leave time for catastrophic illness or injury. Contact Human Resources for additional details.
 
Deferred Compensation
Tax deferred savings plans 457 (b) are available for retirement purposes. Employee pays full cost. Options available are through Voya Financial.
 
Early Separation Incentive Program
Employees who retire from employment early may be eligible for purchase of additional PERS retirement credit. Contact Human Resources for additional details.

 Holidays

  

Employees receive 11 paid holidays as follows (employee must be in paid-status the day before and after the holiday):

Additional Cigna Programs
 
Transparency in Coverage: Effective 07/01/2022, this link will lead to the machine-readable files that are made available in response to the federal Transparency in Coverage Rule and includes negotiated service rates and out-of-network allowed amounts between health plans and healthcare providers. The machine readable files are formatted to allow researchers, regulators, and application developers to more easily access and analyze data.
Life Insurance
  
Term policy in the amount of $10,000. Employee may purchase additional life and accidental death insurance through lower group rates. Contact Human Resources for more information.
 
Disability, Cancer or Accident Insurance

 Employees may purchase additional insurance(s) such as Disability, Cancer or Accident through Guardian.
Retirement
 
 
 County is a choice agency under the Nevada Public Employees Retirement System (PERS).  Employees may choose to either pay one-half (15.50% of the retirement contributions) and receive a higher hourly rate of pay or have the County pay 100% of the retirement contributions and receive a lower hourly rate of pay. Benefits vest after 5 years of service. If the employee pays one-half of the retirement premiums and does not remain employed for 5 years they are entitled to a refund of the premiums they paid.
 
Sick Leave
  
Employee is eligible to receive 15 paid sick days per year accrued at 10 hours per month. Sick leave is available after six-months of employment.
 
Social Security
  
Social Security Retirement, Disability is not paid for employees who are covered by the PERS Retirement Plan. M-Care Insurance premiums are paid for all employees.
 
Vacation
 
 
  • Year 1 - accrue 1 week (3.34 hours per month); 20 hours available to use after 6 months of employment. 
  • Years 2-5 accrue 3 weeks (10.00 hours per month).
  • Year 6+ accrue 4.2 weeks (14.00 hours per month).
240 hours per year maximum vacation leave carryover allowed.
